Non-esterified fatty acids (AGNE) are released in large quantities in the plasma; they are at the origin of hepatic steatosis. They cause a decrease in appetite, immunity and fertility. Carnitine has two isomers; its active form is L-Carnitine whereas form D is biologically inactive. Carnitine by promoting the penetration and the b-oxidation of the AGNE in mitochondria decrease these negative effects, stimulates the appetite of the animal and increases its energy pool.
Stimulation of appetite and provision of energy in cattle (dairy cows).
